The 9-second period means the wave has travelled a long way and retained its energy, which is why the faces peel rather than crumble. Water is 18°C, air 21°C, tide is falling steadily, and the window stays solid until the wind picks up this afternoon.

By 3pm the swell will probably swell to chest-high and offshore will strengthen to a north-northwest wind at around 19 kph, which will keep the faces tidy but also signal the dawn patrol window closing out. After that, conditions deteriorate steadily into the afternoon.
