Start with Pottuvil Point or Whiskey Point, which read identically today and rank joint-best on the brief. Both peaks epic at chest to overhead, but these breaks separate themselves in real conditions in ways the forecast does not yet hold. The 1.2-metre swell at a long 13-second period is the engine here, wrapping in from the south and grooming the sand points with a proper offshore wind from the south-west that cleans the faces and holds the shape through the take-off. Right now at 1.5 to 2.6 metres, this is a confident surfer's wave only, packed with real power despite the soft sand bottom, and the water at 30°C is warm. The tide is barely moving, which keeps the banks stable, and 97 per cent groundswell means the texture stays organised and predictable. Go now if you are experienced and fit for overhead water.

By mid-afternoon the wind is swinging a touch further west and the swell is holding its size at chest to head range. The window is not over yet, but the conditions that made early morning special are fading as the wind trades offshore hold and the tide finishes its fall. If you are already in the water, you have until around 5pm, but the magic is front-loaded.

Tomorrow the forecast reads epic, with the swell probably holding chest to overhead through midday and the same offshore wind pattern remaking clean faces. This is again a wave for confident and experienced surfers, not learners or improvers, even if the sand-bottom point breaks softly. The period and swell angle are holding, so the read looks firm, though the gap between forecast and ocean is always worth bearing in mind on the east coast when the monsoon is running.
