About this break

Reef

SSW to W
A reef peak in the Senggigi cluster on Lombok's west coast, named off the rock that marks it. Like the rest of the area it works on a south-west swell over coral and suits intermediates. Best in the dry season from May to September at low to mid tide, racier and hollower as the reef shallows out.
Heads up. Shallow sharp coral at low tide, rocks.

AboutThe swell angle is lined up perfectly for Mushroom, wrapping around the headland and hitting the reef at size, and the offshore wind from the south-east is grooming the faces clean right now. Waist to chest with 16-second period means the energy is genuine groundswell, not chop, and the falling tide will keep the reef working through the window. This is a progression day for intermediates comfortable reading a coral peak and holding a line in decent juice.
By mid-afternoon the wind swings north-north-west and turns cross-shore, which will chop the surface slightly, but the swell holds and probably fills in a touch as the day ages. Expect to shoulder by 3pm, though the best of it runs until around 8pm.
Tomorrow holds at the same rating with waist to chest in the morning, before the swell fades through the day. The period will be shorter and the size smaller than today, so it reads as a softer option, but the reef will still have shape. Morning is the call, though the ocean often reads deeper than the models promise here, so don't be surprised if it surprises you.
