Carrapateira's surf hub, a broad west-north-west facing beach with consistent sandbar peaks and several surf camps based in the car park above. Sheltered from the dominant summer north wind and works right through the tide, offering something at most sizes, which makes it the busiest and most school-friendly spot on this coast. Best from autumn to spring, with summer the peak learner season.
Heads up. Rocks at the southern end, crowded school lineups in summer, rips on bigger days.

Temp, sun and UV are reliable. Tide, wave height and wind direction are model estimates. Remember that.

AboutRight now looks fair and worth a dawn patrol session if you're already up. Thigh to waist waves are turning up on a long ten-second period, which means shape and cleaner lines than chop alone could build, and the swell angle wraps in well here. North wind is cross-shore and light enough that the faces should hold definition, though water is cool at seventeen degrees, so a spring suit earns its place.
By mid-afternoon the swell fades to ankle to thigh and the wind picks up to twenty kilometres per hour, still from the north-west. Today's window closes by mid-morning; conditions decline through the rest of the day.
Tomorrow stays fair and looks strongest in the evening when ankle to waist peaks return. It reads softer than this morning but steadier through the day, so if you miss the dawn patrol window today, tomorrow evening offers a more forgiving timeframe to get in the water.
